Krav Maga is an Israeli self-defence and fighting system. Originally developed for military and war-like situations, it has since been adapted for civilians and everyday street threats.
Krav Maga’s motto is “So that one may walk in peace”. It teaches first and foremost prevention and de-escalation. As a last resort the system teaches how to end a confrontation as quickly as possible by employing aggression and targeting the most vulnerable body points.
Krav Maga is not a sport, it’s about surviving by any means necessary. The only rule in Krav is that there are none.
Krav Maga Global is recognized as the single most professional and internationally active Krav Maga organization in the world, having earned the trust of security services and civilian practitioners alike.
Established in 2010 by Eyal Yanilov, and based in Israel, KMG consists of more than 1,000 highly-trained instructors in over 60 countries.
Eyal is the only person who holds both the highest Krav Maga rank ever awarded by Grandmaster Imi Sde-Or, founder of Krav Maga, and the Founder’s Diploma of Excellence. Eyal served as Imi’s closest assistant since the early 1980’s.
The NZ Self-Defence Academy has been teaching Krav Maga since 2011. We believe everyone should have the confidence and skills to defend themselves and their family.
Andre Maritz has over 35 years of experience in different martial arts: from Karate, through boxing and kick-boxing to Muay Thai. After surviving a violent armed carjacking in South Africa, he realized that what works in the ring will not necessarily save you on the street. He looked for a system that is effective, easy and enjoyable to learn, builds confidence and fitness, and saves lives... and found Krav Maga.
Amanda Todd is our MetaFit coach who has spent the last 6 years training both Aussies and Kiwis in small groups as well as one-on-one sessions.
She has worked in rehab for various joint injuries, and has extensive experience in post natal fitness. A dancer most of her younger years, Amanda got into fitness due to her love of life and food, and wanting to enjoy these things whilst still maintaining her health.
